1. 20% SMALLER NOTCH
The iconic notch was a defining character of the iPhone, all modern-day phones have them. For the newer models, Apple has decided to shorten the length of the notch by 20%.
Furthermore, the notch of the previous years iPhones was among the biggest in the industry and people were hoping they would launch a complete notch-less design but I think we’ll have to wait for few generations before we see a complete 100% screen to body ratio.
The only thing that is coming in between and not less design is the front camera, everything else has been pushed behind the screen but we have not seen a camera behind a screen so we’ll have to wait for the technology to arrive. I hope Apple will be the one that discovered or invented this technology in the near future.
2. NEWER 120 Hz DISPLAY
It was one of the most awaited features of the iPhone. People were waiting eagerly for this announcement and finally, we see higher refresh rate screens in iPhone 13 Pro for the first time. This year only Pro phones are able to deliver 120 Hz but surely from next year non-Pro models would also be getting higher refresh rate screens.
The phone max out at 800 nits under normal conditions and goes up to 1200 nits for HDR content like photos and videos.
Cheaper phones were able to deliver higher refresh rate screens but Apple couldn’t do for the past years but now they have finally come out with a higher refresh rate screen. And it has got people excited once again because whatever Apple does, it does it better than its competitors for sure.
3. NEW A15 BIONIC CHIPSET
Every year Apple comes out with a new chipset that is way faster than the last year‘s model, but even the last year‘s model is way faster than any other smartphone out there. Apple is truly killing in the chipset game, they are fast enough that everyone doesn’t need that much power.
The A15 bionic is based on a 5 nm technology that consists of 15 billion transistors. It has 6 core CPUs with 2 high-performance cores and 4 energy-efficient cores. It even has 16 core neural engines that enable the iPhone to do heavy-duty Machine Learning tasks.
All in all, A15 enables the iPhone to perform 15.8 trillion operations per second, these numers are just getting stupidily big.
Currently, the threshold of the distance between consecutive transistors is 5 nm, which is incredibly small if you put it into the context of competition from previous decades but this is the norm nowadays. The breakage of this threshold would mean a further increase in power with the smaller and smaller chipsets.
4. CAMERAS & VIDEOS
Every year the iPhone has been setting a benchmark in this category, capturing some of the stunning details in photos and videos. but the problem is Apple has been using the same 12-megapixel primary camera for future generations but this time they have added the OIS in the sensor rather than in the primary camera, which in my opinion would yield better results.
More than Photos, the capturing quality of videos in iPhone is something that cannot be found in any other smartphone. With the help of an A15 bionic eight can do Dolby Vision recording in real-time. now they are able to capture cinematic mode in the video itself.
5. BATTERY LIFE
This is one of the most controversial topics about the iPhone as they have been making a tough decision of not giving a great battery life in accordance with the longer life of the iPhone. This time they have slightly increased the capacity of the battery.
In the past, they have deliberately tried to power down the iPhone through an OTA update so that their battery life lasts longer. This was done without the knowledge of the consumer, which started an outrage, and in the end, even Tim Cook had to step in to apologize. The only concern people were having is that Apple would have given a choice to the consumer between battery life and limiting power rather than Apple taking the decision for them.
THE ABSOLUTE FUTURE OF iPhone
In my opinion, the future of the iPhone lies in the viewing experience. Currently, we see a 2-D image on any smartphone screen but with the use of dual eye sensing cameras, we can integrate a 3D viewing experience into the screens without the need for special 3D goggles.
Those cameras would be catching the movement of the eye in real-time and can fluctuate the image or text accordingly to increase our view on experience.
Using 3D goggles while watching 3D content was one of the failures of 3D TV technology that the smartphone world needs to overcome in order to give it a leap of faith like never before. Also, they need to optimize each and every app and function in the smartphone so that it is compatible with 3-D viewing.
Modern cars are using this technology for the betterment of the driving experience, The newer launched Mercedes-Benz S class has used this in their instruments cluster where the driver can see a 3-D view directly in front of him. It has been developed by using the same technology of two real-time eye-tracking cameras.
If this technology goes into production and if Apple is the first one to do it then we can clearly see a revolutionary product that would change the way we embrace content.
